Humanitarian Aid Organizations – From the Heart to the World
May 10, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm UTC+8
Discover more about the works of humanitarian aid organizations and how these organizations deliver their good cause with Faye Alund and Vanessa Deering.
Faye currently is the co-founder of Kumpul Coworking Space. Before starting Kumpul, Faye spent most of her career working with Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders), a medical humanitarian organisation known for its neutrality and emergency relief works. With MSF she worked in Indonesia, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Yemen. She managed projects in mental health, health promotion, HIV advocacy and psychosocial support.
Vanessa worked with the American Red Cross from 2009 to 2015 supporting disaster recovery efforts for the Indian Ocean tsunami and the Haiti earthquake. Her work as a program and partnership manager for large scale portfolios took her through Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, as well as three years on the ground in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Prior to international work with the Red Cross, she served as a regional international volunteer coordinator with Habitat for Humanity in San Jose, Costa Rica, spent two years leading community development and conservation volunteer projects in Costa Rica and Thailand, and supported Red Cross volunteer recruitment for the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. One of the toughest jobs she ever had but found inspiring and humbling was volunteering on a national suicide and crisis hotline.
