Dojo Toastmasters Club Meeting

June 7, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm UTC+8

Are you an entrepreneur? Do you believe that you have an important message to deliver, for your current or potential clients? Through a video or a speech? Or your ambitions go as far as ‘I want to change the world with my innovative idea”, but you still feel unheard? Then we invite you to join our community and to rock your public speaking skills!

Toastmasters is a learning environment that teaches you public speaking and communication.

THEME: Proactivity
Word of the Day: Initiative

What people learn:
– Do you want to speak at ease in front of people?
– Do you want to WOW the attendees of your speeches and workshops?
– Do you want to overcome your stage fright?
– Do you want to rock the house like Tony Robbins does?

About the club:
Toastmasters International (TI) is a nonprofit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills. Through its thousands of member clubs, Toastmasters International offers a program of communication and leadership projects designed to help people learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking.

The organization grew out of a single club, Smedley Chapter One Club, which would become the first Toastmasters club. It was founded by Ralph C. Smedley on October 22, 1924, at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, United States. Toastmasters International was incorporated under California law on December 19, 1932. Throughout its history, Toastmasters has served over four million people, and today the organization serves over 345,000 members in 142 countries, through its over 15,900 member clubs.

As of August 2016, there are more than 345,000 members and over 15,900 clubs in 142 countries, with annual membership growth of 5.9% and an increase of 4.1% in new clubs. Membership has grown consecutively every year since 1993.

Toastmasters members belong to local clubs, which generally have between 10 and 40 members, with 20 members being a typical size. The local clubs meet on a regular basis for members to practice various skills useful in public speaking, including giving speeches, speaking extemporaneously, listening, and providing each other with feedback and evaluation. Some clubs meet monthly, some meet twice a month, and some meet weekly.

Toastmasters International has a policy of non-discrimination based on age (except those persons under 18 years of age), race, color, creed, gender, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, or physical or mental disability. Although Toastmasters was initially formed as a male-only organization, membership was opened to women in August 1973.

A Toastmasters club adopts a “learn-by-doing” philosophy, wherein each member learns at a pace suitable to his or her developmental needs. The Toastmasters program is divided into two separate tracks, Communication and Leadership, with members progressing along each track by presenting speeches and taking on roles within their club, district, and Toastmasters International itself.
